    The Singalila Trek

    The Singalila (Sandakphu-Phalut) trek is the most popular trek in the Darjeeling region and is also the  most rewarding. The trek offers the most enthralling views along with a rich collection of flora and fauna that goes on to be an occasion for celebration to every trekker.


Day 1

Bagdogra - Arrive at Bagdogra airport. We leave behind the plains of Siliguri, follow the World heritage Himalayan Railway trail, drive through pristine forests and tea plantations to finally arrive at Darjeeling, a name which has become synonymous with the prized tea!

Day 2

Darjeeling (2,134m) - Lush tea gardens blanket the lower slopes, the sub-Himalayan range forms the backbone and friendly faces reflect the hospitality of the land. Darjeeling is also popularly known as the 'Queen of the Hills'.Darjeeling attracts people from all over the World. There is much to see as the places of attraction around Darjeeling are also quite a few. (B)

Day 3

Tumling (3,000m) - We leave Darjeeling after breakfast and drive for a couple of hours to get to Manebhangyang.Here  we leave our car and after handing out our permits we enter the Singalila sanctuary.We start with a steep climb before going through the small hamlet of Meghma.The night will be spent a bit further up at Tumling. Day 4

Kalpokhari (3,108m) – We trek uphill through dense evergreen forests and hillsides covered with wildflowers. On a clear day the valleys of Nepal and north Bengal are visible along with the rivers Teesta  and Koshi which run through.We descend to spend the night at this beautiful setting of Kalopokhari. Day 5

Sandakphu (3,631m) – A steep ascent gets us to the ‘valley of poison’ so called because of the  aconites  which grow in abundance. However the trail gets more pleasant as we pass through thick magnolia and rhododendron forests before climbing a steep uphill to reach Sandakphu,the highest point of our trek. (BLD)

Day 6

Phalut(3,600m) – Start the day with a spectacular sunrise over the Himalayas as four of the World’s highest mountains tower over one another at an incredibly close distance. The Sandakphu-Phalut stretch is relatively much easier and at the same time most spectacular!!! (BLD)

Day 7

Gorkey –Wake up this morning to measure the proximity of the mountains. The panorama visible from Sandakphu suddenly appears and at the same time, Kanchenjunga (8586m) suddenly seems much larger! We return along the Ramman valley to this small village of Gorkey.(BLD)

Day 8

Sirikhola - An easy trail through  forests and bamboo glades takes us to the pretty little Himalayan village of Samadeen or the 'Lost valley 'inhabited  by very warm and friendly people. (BLD)

Day 9

Kalimpong - A short hike this morning  to Rimbick from where we pick our bus  to Kalimpong.Overnight at the Kalimpong Village Retreat. (BLD)

Day 10

Kalimpong- A nice relaxing day at the farm. (BLD)

Day 11

Kalimpong –A full day  Kalimpong sightseeing from nature to culture of the region. Overnight at the
Kalimpong Village Retreat. (BLD)

Day 12

Transfers to Bagdogra for onward flight.
